When the Marathon Oil Company
constructed Wexford Plantation in 1982, it intended to create the most
exquisite residential community on the East Coast. It used the
Governors Mansion in Williamsburg, Virginia and The Cloisters resort in
Sea Island, Georgia, for reference.
The plantation welcomes residents with immaculately manicured
landscaping, a championship golf course, clubhouse, and a harbour with
one of only four lock systems on the U.S. Atlantic Coast.
The lock system controlled by a 24 hour on-duty harbourmaster opens to
Broad Creek providing access to the Intercoastal Waterway and the
Atlantic Ocean. The most distinguishing characteristics about Wexford
Plantation is its grand homes, many with deep water boat dock behind
them.
